WHO YOU'RE HIRING
Who You're Hiring
Four decades in this trade means most of our work comes from someone we already know. A neighbor, a sister, a customer from 1998 whose daughter just bought her first house.
Jacob and Jay Cool run the day to day operations. We’ve done projects in almost every neighborhood out here, so we’ll know yours.
We hold three contractor licenses. California 677805, Washington coolscr775kz, and Idaho RCE-57496. You can check any of them with the state board.
OUR SERVICES
What We Do
Full kitchens and bathrooms, start to finish. Tile and stone stay with our own crew on every job.
Kitchens
Cabinets, counters, floors, lighting. If the layout needs to change, we handle the framing and the plumbing that comes with it.
Bathrooms
Walk-in curbless showers, standard showers, tubs, vanities, tile. We build the shower pan by hand and waterproof it before any tile goes on.
Natural Stone and Tile
Marble, quartzite, granite, porcelain. We’ll help you pick the slab that’s right for you.
Windows and Doors
Replacement windows and patio doors, retrofit or full frame, built to current energy code.
Whole Home Remodeling
Several rooms or the whole interior under one contract, sequenced so you can live through it.
What a Bad Tile Job Costs You Three Years Later
A shower that leaks doesn’t leak where you can see it. Water gets past the pan, sits in the framing, and works its way out somewhere else. You find it when the hallway floor feels soft under your heel, or a brown ring shows up on the ceiling downstairs.
Fixing it at that point means opening the wall and pulling the shower out. Sometimes the subfloor goes with it.
Bad tile is rarely what caused it. The trouble is under the tile. The pan, the slope to the drain, the membrane, the way the corners get treated.
That’s the part that gets rushed when a contractor subs it out and needs the crew gone by Friday. Our guys aren’t going anywhere on Friday. They work here.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY
What Our Customers Say
Real experiences from Bay Area homeowners who trusted us with their most important spaces.
EXCELLENT Based on 11 reviews Posted on Google JP RTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cool’s Custom has done two remodels for us during the last few years, and we have been extremely pleased with the results. Jay’s knowledge and experience is apparent in the final product. His suggestions and guidance throughout both projects have been extremely helpful, and his recommendations regarding the products to consider were spot on. Jay is a great advocate for his customers in order to ensure customer satisfaction. Cool’s Custom is the only contractor we now utilize for our home remodel projects. And yes, his prices are very fair. On top of it all, Jay and Jacob are truly enjoyable to work with.Posted on Google Rhonda RaiderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Jay Cool has done outstanding work on multiple home-improvement projects over the years, including a bathroom remodel, completely rebuilding another bathroom that had flooded, repairing dry rot, copper repiping, and exterior dry rot repair. I did the copper repiping at a time when copper prices had risen steeply, and he checked with quite a few subcontractors to make sure the price quoted was in line. I deeply appreciate that if something isn't right, Jay cheerfully makes it right.Posted on Google Marian YoshikawaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Over many years I have had Cool’s Custom by Jay remodeled numerous areas of my house. Some remodels were done more than twenty years ago, and I’m happy that those are still looking great. Cool’s Custom have just finished remodeling my kitchen, and it’s gorgeous. Every one of Jay’s team have worked so hard to make the kitchen perfect. Jay graciously accommodated my add-on and still managed to stay on schedule. I’m very happy with my new kitchen. I will continue to call Cool’s Custom for future remodeling.Posted on Google Marla GriesedieckTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Cool's Custom Remodeling by Jay Inc. has done several projects for me. The first was two bathrooms. They were professional, cleaned up after and most importantly were on time. Another aspect I like was, they "listened". The work was exceptional. They worked within the HOA regulations with no complaint. They just finished a small job of a cabinet remodel. They completed the job quickly and I couldn't have been happier with how quickly this job went. I highly recommend them!Posted on Google Lawrence PezinoTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. FAQs
What does a remodel cost?
It depends heavily on where you are. In the Bay Area, most kitchens land between $60,000 and $110,000 and bathrooms run $30,000 to $75,000. Call us and we’ll give you an accurate proposal with real numbers.
How long will it take?
A bathroom is usually four to six weeks. A kitchen runs six to 12. You can stay in the house through the remodel, and we set up a temporary sink and a spot for the fridge before the demo starts.
Do I need a permit?
The need for a permit varies from city to city. We’ll discuss the permit process and requirements with you and let you decide what’s best for your needs.
Can I live in the house while you work?
Most people do. Bathrooms are easy if you have a second one. Kitchens are harder, so we set you up with a working sink and a spot for the fridge before demo starts.
What if you open the wall and find a problem?
In older houses we usually find something. Rotted subfloor under an old tub, galvanized pipe, or wiring that never got updated. We stop, show you what’s there, and give you a price before we touch it.
Do I need a designer?
Not for most jobs. We’ll go through the layout with you, meet you at the slab yard, and help you pick tile and finishes. If your project needs drawings from an architect, we’ll tell you that up front.
Our Service Areas
We work out of two locations. Different states, same crew standards and the same people answering the phone.
